People of all ages are affected by glaucoma, and it is the leading cause of blindness in African Americans over the age of 35. People over the age of 40 are also at greater risk as are those with elevated intraocular pressure, family history of glaucoma, diabetics, long-term steroid users, and nearsighted individuals.
